Common Mistakes in Resumes

                         

Introduction

Some people are wont to using acronyms in their resumes, however it should always be taken care of that they should be the ones that all are aware of. Probably VP will be recognized as Vice president by recruiters, but SVP might not be known by too many people to stand for Senior Vice president. Don’t take chances while writing out the title of your job better to give it in full.

Usage of superlatives is a strict no, no matter how great an employee you might have been. Things like ‘Great manager’ are simply not acceptable. You should illustrate your competency instead by facts and the appraisals in whatever form you might have got them. You can and should promote yourself in your resume but whatever you write has to be supported by facts.

Repetitiveness of words and verbs is sure to bore your recruiter to death. For instance if you have a number of jobs in your experience section then don’t let them all begin with ‘Responsible for’, you need to be creative, however read on

Too much of creativeness can land you into trouble, words like amelioration and edification will make you sound like a nerd and not very practical too. No one wants to use a dictionary too read a resume!

Long Sentences are another big no; the general tendency is to skim through resumes, for things to stand out so short sentences and bulleted lists for itemizing your accomplishments.
