How to handle interview rejection

Introduction

You know that your interview went off very well, and you are sure that you will make it. What if you call up a week after the interview and then you get to know that you did not get the job? Relax there is no need to sulk and sit in front of the TV and gorge on comfort food.

There are always exceptions but rejection happens to everybody. There are always people who are first toppers in their school and then colleges and then get that perfect placement and are oh so rich. But all of us can’t be like that. Even the top CEOs have sometime in their life faced failures too. The fact ideally remains that whether or not you are used to rejection if you are told that you are not good enough then it hurts.

What you can probably take solace in is that the interviewers who sat across the table from you and whom you were in awe of are also human and thus not perfect. They are successful but yet human. Your rejection could be according to some particular likes and dislikes that they harbor and they could be any whimsical fancy too and have no rational explanation.

However you can’t be sure about any of this before hand. So it is better that you probably didn’t get a job at such a place. You probably could still have a chance at the job, ring up the firm and tell them that you were very impressed with the interview an if probably the candidate that they have selected doesn’t work out then they can always give you a call you are willing to work with their organization still.

You could also probably ask for any similar vacancies that they know off. You don’t lose anything by asking and it might be beneficial for you eventually. Or you could also ask for any feedback that why you lost out on the job and why the other candidate got selected. More experience is often a valid reason or a standard reply. So investigate further as to what better experience the other person had as compared to you.

This procedure will tell you where you lack and what should be your area for improvement before you take up your next interview. To help relax yourself you can read up on how other people also cope with rejection at interviews.
