Post Graduate Studies: Essential?

If you think that a post graduate degree will give you the ticket to your dream job, then I would like to say that you can be mistaken. This doesn’t mean that a post graduate degree is useless, what it means is that the right post graduate degree is important. It’s more than an intellectual decision it’s a business one.

There are two categories of people who usually go in for post graduate studies, one who want to know everything about a particular field and the other who need a career oriented course added to their CVs. So anybody who wishes to go forward with a post graduate degree should first know what they want to do it for? The choices are in front of you.

The fact remains if you think yourself that a post graduate degree will not help your career then you are right it will not. This is because either your graduate studies were incomplete in some fashion, or you are going in a specialized field otherwise a post graduate degree holds no significance for your career.

You should research about the filed in which you are going to make a career or are already working and then find out if a post graduate degree is required or not. Then you also need to decide which field do you wish to pursue post graduation in? This can be different form the field of your graduation. This assessment can be made on the basis of your aptitude or your skills and flair for a particular field.

You need to make your recruiter aware of the benefits of your post graduate course other wise it will be just another notation on your CV. There are lots of other choices to consider for instance when you want to begin with your course study? Do you wish to take a full time or part time course? For working professionals a part time course is the best bet and sometimes the organization that you are working for also finances your higher studies if they feel it is beneficial for them too.

For some people the option of taking up post graduate studies are after they have taken a couple of year’s break form studies and have worked and also have replenished their funds. Studying for a part time course requires a lot of dedication from your side since you should know if you can study in your free time after a grinding work schedule.

Last but not the least even if your post graduate degree is not relevant to the field you want to work for, if you develop skills that employers love you can land up with your dream job.
