Strategies to be Followed in Your Gap Year.

Introduction

A gap year is a big favorite with all the graduate students who want to live life to the hilt before they hit the grind of the job world. Some have always wanted to travel but never got the chance, so they want a gap year for that and many more reasons. The idea itself is so fantastic that you can’t stop dreaming about it. But what needs to be kept in mind by you about it is that you have some things to take care of before you begin on your sojourn.

A gap year should not be wasted in simply sitting and watching TV. When you go out and seek employment after that, questions will be raised on this year, as to why was it simply whiled away? You need to adopt some strategy that you have your fair share of fun and later you are able to sell this year to your prospective employer.

The question arises how can this be done? Any activity that you undertake for instance a holiday in a jungle camp or something can show a lot may things about you, your ability to manage yourself, your leadership skills etc.

What should you do?

You should seek the opportunity to travel if you are an enthusiast, or probably explore the place for which you have always had a fantasy. For instance, if the ‘Lord of the Rings’ fascinated you, then you could plan to explore New Zealand. You could do community service in some underprivileged country for instance Uganda. It’s not necessary that your gap year needs to be spent abroad. You can spend it right in your own country and try out something exciting or whatever is close to your heart. You can even passionately follow your hobby and excel in it. This will also convey a lot about you to your prospective employer.

A Fifty- Fifty Scheme

Some people also like working for six months in a year and traveling for the next six months. Others like to do the traveling bit first and they pay off the debts after they return. You can also find casual work as you travel but please you should know about the visa formalities. This is a good way of funding your trips.

This is an opportunity that you should seek before settling down in a permanent job. This year may also help you decide about what career to follow if you are not sure about it. Thus the gap year apart from being a time of enjoyment can serve an important purpose for you.
