What to Look for in an Employer?

                         

Introduction

When you are out job hunting you need to concentrate on the fact that you are simply not seeking a job but you are making a choice. You need to be well prepared and not randomly choose just about any body as your employer. You need to take some time to understand your values and ethics and then analyze those of the employer at the time of the interview. This will make it easier for you to not get stuck in a job that you will hate you employer too.

What is the approximate size of the company that you would be comfortable working with?

You need to decide whether you would like to be a part of a huge multinational corporate or would you like to be a valued member of a small 150 member close knit organization.

What is the culture of the organization that you would like to work for?

It’s not mandatory that you have to carry a briefcase and wear a suit; you could probably work in a relaxed atmosphere where even jeans are allowed.

What is the work principle that will suit you more?

Are you the person who is ready to put in long hours at the office in return of financial benefits or would you like a conventional job with 9to5 working hours and lots of personal time on your hands.

What is the location where you would like to work?

You might be a total city slicker so you would like to be in the heart of it all, but if you are a quiet country lover then will you be happy in the midst of just about everything?

Do you like commuting?

Not many people are lucky enough to find offices at 5 minute distance from their homes. So would like to keep running for the sub every time? Would you like to drive in the traffic or would you want to work from your home?

What salary do you expect?

Money is a big consideration for most of the job seeker. So what is yours? Would you wan to be able to afford the latest in fashion and want the latest gadgets, as soon as you start working or would you want to retain your student lifestyle for some more time?

Is training going to be offered to you?

To progress in any field you require training so make sure the firm that you choose offers you the opportunity to train in the transferable skills.

Does your career progress in this job?

You wouldn’t like to be stuck in a dead end job would you? You should always analyze the possibilities of promotion and newer openings in the job.

Can you travel?

Some jobs are such that require extensive traveling. Do you enjoy traveling and living out of a suit case? If no then you can be frustrated easily. Its better that you enquire into all the possibilities before hand, and then take a decision.
