How to Dress for a job Interview?

Introduction

After you have received a call on submitting your resume for a job vacancy, the next problem that occupies is how to dress. You always wish to have that perfect look and yet are confused about what will it be? Should the outfit be strictly formal or should it be a combination of casual or formal? Can you be what you are and dress accordingly or due you need to portray an image?

If you go dressed up as someone happy go lucky would it be objectionable? This anxiety is common to everybody, a fresher or an experience holder. If you have spiked hair would they need to be straightened or do your ear and nose rings etc need to come off? Being unique seems to appeal to everyone as they feel that they should stand out from the rest of the crowd.

The problem is not a very big one and doesn’t need to have a hue and cry around it. The reason of why a formal tilt is preferred is because the purpose of the meeting is to asses someone’s working ability. The dress code could alter later as the job begins depending upon the requirement of the job, but the interview should have a formal tone about it. The formal dress code conveys a sense of seriousness on your part with regard to the job.

If occasions didn’t matter then no one would dress up for their wedding. Similarly as a wedding is a special occasion so is a job interview. The human resource people will always ask you to dress for any job no matter how insignificant it might seem a notch better than how you usually dress.

Your dress not just conveys your sense of dressing but also leaves behind an impression of your personality. Personality might seem insignificant to some people but in fact it is an important tool of conveying a person’s abilities. For instance someone who wishes to present themselves as reserved will always dress up in conservative and pastel colored clothes.

Someone who is too flashy in their dressing style might actually lose out on a job even though he is qualified enough because the personality doesn’t suit the employer. So your clothes convey a lot about you and at times becoming the limiting or qualifying factor for you. A combination of white and blue, or that of black and white and grey etc is the traditional conservative colors that people like to sport.
