How will you explain your average grades to your prospective employers?

Introduction

Not all employers welcome a 2.2 grade and if your distinction is your vocational abilities then you might not be treated with the same amount of respect. However you can’t change the world and all that you can seek here is advice on how to handling such behavior.

IF you have a really good excuse to make not like your math teacher was an alcoholic or your dog died before the day of your final exams but something like bereavement in the family or an accident or something on those lines. This could probably be a saving grace. There are employers who lend a sympathetic ear to such problems and may become lenient on such grounds.

A career advisor will be the best person to consult if you don’t know how to word your problem. However keep it in mind that you should not sound over apologetic or self pitying. The resume should have a flow that passes swiftly on to the positives of your career. A poor academic grade could have made you acquire some other vocational skills as a backup that might be very useful for the job that you have applied for now.

The computer could prove to be your arch enemy in the case that you might not have an opportunity to include a covering letter. So make it work out in such a way that you can talk to the recruiter in person so that you explain things to him. Don’t take an electronic rejection to heart, you could always call up and ask if it was an error.

If you have been plain lazy and nothing else then you obviously cannot reveal the same to your prospective employer, to get through the initial screening you need to be very determined and hardworking and prove your mettle to the employer and put forth all the reasons that should make him employ you.

If your academic grade is not all that impressive then you need to acquire relative working skills so that your employer can consider you as a prospective candidate for the job. Your network should be very strong. If you know aluminas who are working for the organization be diplomatic and ask them to help you around with things. Involve yourself in vacation courses that will give you the desired expertise and keep attending career fairs too.

You should consider small recruiters too and not just keep focusing on the big shots. Your research of the industry you wish to seek employment in should be thorough.
