Workplace Failures- A Way to Learn

Do you think any one on this earth is perfect? The answer is “no”. Failures are a parcel of every one's life. What counts is that one should learn from these failures and try to improve him/her every time. Similar is a case, when you make some errors, mistakes or blunders at your work place. Literature and studies have always supported that failures are the stepping stones of success.
You just need to have a right approach and a way to deal with failures at work place, to shape them in something less grave. Let's walk our way through learning those small tricks which will solve your problem of work place failures.
Managing Deadlines
If deadlines really make you helpless, you can learn to solve this problem. If your boss bullies you with repeated reminders and scolds when the work is not finished on time, there is a way out. You need to follow few simple steps in future now to let you be out of the situation:
- While the work is assigned, time yourself and try to take a stock of the work finished at regular intervals.
- Do not keep the work pending till the 11 th hour. Try and touch it as early as possible. Analyse how much time you need to do it and get started at a right time.
- If you are stuck up mid way in your work and this is causing delay, try contacting your colleagues and seniors to give you a kick start before it is late.
- Be frank, if you are assigned a work and you cannot take it up. Deny in a polite manner explaining the senior, if the reasons are genuine.
Managing Disagreements with Boss and Colleagues
Conflicts are an indivisible part of work culture. But there are sweeter ways of managing them. Politeness and correct logic can win hearts as well as mind. Let's see what you can
do to manage this:
- Try not countering the boss upfront any day. Be low profile and try to explain your view point in softer words.
- Try talking to your immediate superior and explain him the logic of your point, so that he can support you.
- Try winning people by substantiating people's points with your own view rather than opposing them straight on the face
- If you have already been in the conflict and are regretting now, don't regret it on your table, rather write a nice mail to the person you fought with; explain him why you did so, your problem will surely be solved.
Managing an Unfulfilled Commitment
People at work expect you to fulfil commitments that you give. You can salvage the relation be it with a colleague, customer or boss by explaining your position. See what you can do here.
- Be honest and explain you position and reasons of not delivering the output.
- Have an attitude of being able to take up the responsibility of doing your best to bring them out of the problem which has occurred due to your failure of delivery.
- Be there till the problem is fixed.
- Surprise the person by a wonderful delivery, the next time. This will add to your credibility.
Managing a Bad Suggestion
If you are a good employee, then even a bad suggestion once in a while will not land you in big troubles. This is because “To err is human”. You can manage such a situation in the following way.
Don't be over defensive
Try accepting the mistake
Show readiness to do anything to make good the loss.
Failures will come, but there are always ways to deal with them.
