Introduction

Post graduate studies can be and are as varied as the sectors of jobs that can be. Just about any post graduate degree will not work for any sector. You need to know the specialized degree that will work for the field that you want to seek employment in. Thus a through research of the options available to you must be done.

This choice will place you in a comfortable position for your future job and will definitely be given preference by your prospective employers.

Some of the sectors and relevant post graduate degrees are as follows-

Banking and Finance - This is a highly competitive world and each sector wants highly qualified employees. The competition is tough and you need an MBA degree from a good institute to get in here.

Construction and Built environment - This field requires quality trained engineers and that too specialized ones for the field, so if this sector is what you are aiming at then work for a specialized engineering degree.

Engineering - Usually employers in this field rarely employ post graduates and if they do then they definitely progress at a faster rate as compared to others. Specialization that is highly valued in this sector is EngD which is considered equivalent to a PhD.

Health - For people who realized after their graduation that they actually wanted to be doctors, a graduate medical degree of five years was devised that taught everything which was taught at the undergraduate medical level.

Tourism, Leisure and hospitality – Post graduate studies are lees in demand over here as the undergraduate degrees offer a plethora of choices and specializations.

IT- This sector can be confusing at some level as some organizations feel that a post graduate degree shows a higher level of commitment towards the industry whereas at the same time some organizations treat it at par with an undergraduate degree.

Journalism- It is not very essential to seek a post graduate degree to become a good journalist as there are other requirements too. However if you want an edge over others then you can definitely try to get that degree but the competition for securing a seat is as tough as getting a job.

Law- A majority of the people who undertake a post graduate degree in this field is because they have a burning interest in it. However a post graduate degree essentially doesn’t guarantee you a job.
