All about Film Making

Film is the heady mix of creative genius and use of the latest technology. Films are an important means of communication, apart from being entertaining and informative. It is the ultimate expression of mass media. It transcends all international borders and unites diverse races like no other medium could achieve. The art of learning this universal language is known as filmmaking. It includes various filmy shows like documentaries, news, films, advertisements, musical videos and promotional and educational pictures. Filmmaking is a craft that involves teamwork. It brings together people of varied skills under one roof to act in co-ordination with one another. It comprises of reading and writing of scripts, producing and directing movies, cinematography, sound recording, digital and visual mixing, editing, etc.

Some of the major categories of filmmaking and the people behind the actual show involve the following: 

• Event Manager or producer - A movie cannot be made without a proper budget. Therefore, finance is an integral part of filmmaking and so is the producer. Financing big-budget films includes costly indoor and outdoor location charges, the artiste's prices, costly music launches and promotional gimmicks. A producer literally joins the whole unit members of a particular project by arranging their convenience and conveyance.
           
• The main captain or the director - He translates the scripted version of a film to its onscreen form. The imagination of a director takes shape in the form of a film. He visualizes, shoots the scenes accordingly with the actors help. He is the one who makes an actor give his best shot. With a good director the film is usually a great success.
                    
• Cinematographer- He is the one who handles the camera. It is his work that the audience enjoys onscreen. Capturing the correct emotions with the right camera angles is not an easy task. This challenging task is that of a cinematographer. Uninterrupted flow of the story and actual handling of the camera is his trick that can lead a film to being box office hit.
                
• Scriptwriter- The scripts vary according to various characters in a single project. The actor's script is different from an art director's who has to lay the sets for the scenes. Creating imaginary characters that is projected by a real person needs real creative talent and imaginative skills. Only one who is passionate about writing can develop into a good scriptwriter.
             
• Designers- Costume designing is a subtle art. Costumes should blend with the character one is portraying onscreen. But, it is a real pleasure and satisfaction in working with top-shots of the industry and designing costumes for them- be it Amitabh Bacchan's evening ensemble or Shahrukh's hot leather pants. It falls in the pre-production part of cinema.
              
• Art director - Creating life-like sets are the work of the art director. A futuristic modern era, a village scene or even a tribal community- whatever the demand of the script is created on a budget scale by the art director. Lot of hard work and passion goes into the work. The art director earns his penny according to his creative capacities and work success.
              
• Actors- Portraying a character onscreen is the work of an actor. Varying emotions like happiness, love, hatred, sadness, an actor has to perform one and all. Voice modulations and understanding the depth of the character is the actor's outlook.
                 
• Editor- It involves lots of cuts off screen before bringing the film onscreen. It is said to make or break movies. Right kind of editing gives the movie a great feel.
                
• Music director -A film can attain success by its music alone. The film's success rides heavily on his shoulders. Good music can create magic in the box-office even if the picture has a bad storyline or amateur artistes.
