Job interview tips

The fact that you were requested for a job interview is very encouraging and suggests that the employer has seen something in the resume that he/she likes. The interview is giving you a chance to convince the employer that you are the best person for the job. The goal of the job interview is to show the employer that you have the skills, background, and ability to do the job and that you can successfully fit into the organization and its work cultures.

The job interview is a communication process; if you can impress your employer with your communication skills, experiences, and interests then there is a good chance that the employer will remember you. It is important that you can show the employer how you can be an asset to the company.

The time you spend on preparation is vital to help you stand out from the competition. We'll help you in this task. We've covered every aspect of the job interview process.

Job interview tips give you information about how to face the interview.

1. Preparation and confidence

Good preparation always creates confidence. So the important thing to an interview is to be well prepared. You have to gather information that is useful during the interview.

2. Research

Do not go for an interview without proper company and industry research. The data should cover industry trends and statistics, company's products, financials, and other areas related to the company's operations.

Visit the prospective employer's website and browse through the "About Us," "Employment," "Careers," "Our People," and "Media" or "News" sections. An annual report can also be a great source of information and can be picked up from the reception desk of the company you are interviewing with.

3. Rehearse

Rehearsing with a friend or family member is a great way to soothe pre-interview nerves. It will not only build confidence and communication skills but will also help you get your thoughts straight. Collect the job interview sample questions and practice them; it will make them easy to remember when you get to the interview.

4. Prepare a Checklist

While going to interview you must consider the following things:

  • You must confirm about the time, date and location of the interview and name of interviewee where appropriate.
  • You should plan to get there no earlier than half an hour before the interview time.
  • If you are asked to bring certificates, references etc., get them ready before the day. Your interview letter must be with you.
  • On arrival ensure the receptionist knows you are there.

5. Be on time!

Always keep in mind that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. So be on time at the particular location of interview.

6. Sell Yourself

Interviewing is about selling yourself. Give them reasons for hiring you. Tell them what you can do for them. Emphasize what you can bring to the company, department and position. Convince them that you are the best person for the job.

7. Talk about specific achievements

Interviewers like to know how you felt about a particular success. Some will ask for specific examples of things you have done that you are particularly proud of; how you solved problems; how you learned - and improved - from difficult situations.

8. Answer accurately

While giving answers to questions :

Be Concise: Listen to the questions carefully and answer to the point

Provide Examples: Support your contentions with examples. Think of recent strong strategic examples of work you've done, then when the question is asked, answer with specifics, not in generalities.

Be Honest: It is always better to state the truth than beating about the bush. If you don't know something then state the fact.

•  Close the interview appropriately

The closing phase is the most important part of the interview for making a lasting impression that can place you above other competitors for the same position. Let the interviewer know how excited you are about the position. Find out what the next step is. Make a statement that indicates that you can do the job, and that you would like to receive an offer. The candidate that shows the most enthusiasm for the job, the opportunity and the company is usually the one that gets the offer.
